MonoCab OWL: Development and demonstration of Mono-Cabs

Duration
-

MonoCabs - Small shuttles using the two rails of reactivated railroad lines in both directions. On demand, they run with high frequency as a new form of public individual transportation. With this idea for the MonoCab concept, the Landeseisenbahn Lippe e. V. won the German mobility prize in 2018.

With the MonoCab OWL project, two demonstrators of these gyro-stabilized monorail vehicles are now being developed and built for the first time in the context of Regionale 2022 UrbanLand Ostwestfalen-Lippe. Jointly funded by the Ministry of Transport of North Rhine-Westphalia (VM NRW) and the European Fund for Regional Development, the project partners have set themselves the goal of proving the feasibility of the idea on a scientific basis. Involved are the Technische Hochschule Ostwestfalen-Lippe, the University of Applied Sciences Bielefeld, the Fraunhofer IOSB INA and the Landeseisenbahn Lippe club.

The Institute for Energy Research (iFE) is significantly involved in the project: In the subject areas of mechanical design, aerodynamics, control engineering, simulation, drive technology, power electronics and control software, up to six employees conduct interdisciplinary research in the project. Students are actively involved in many sub-areas and introduced to scientific work. inIT and Detmold School for Architecture and Interior Architecture are further project partners within TH OWL.
