Electrical Drives

Objectives: Students learn the basic characteristics of uncontrolled and con-trolled AC motors and their control elements. They will be able to design an electronic drive system, to select the right components and to put it into operation
Lectures: Theory of asynchronous and synchronous machines, speed-torque characteristics, basic functions an basic circuits of power electronics, power semiconductors, frequency converters with voltage DC link, multi-quadrant operation of converters, speed control of AC machines using converters, U/f char-acteristics of AC machines, speed and torque control, applications of variable-speed AC drives
Exercises: Aim at a deeper understanding of the lecture contents.
Labs: Experimental set-ups and simulation models of power electronic circuits are examined in detail.
