Research focus
Prof. Dr. Abderrahim Krini’s research focuses on the development and validation of methodologies for the assessment of the reliability and operational lifetime of electronic systems. His work includes the modelling of real-world stress and failure mechanisms, the development of physics-based and statistical prediction models, and the quantitative evaluation of failure data. Particular emphasis is placed on deriving robust reliability metrics, estimating remaining useful lifetime, advancing software-assisted prognostics, and assessing the reusability of electronic components in the context of remanufacturing.
His technical expertise covers the design and evaluation of safety-critical hardware and software architectures, diagnostic and fault-tolerance concepts, and the implementation of safety-related development and verification processes in compliance with international standards such as ISO 26262 and IEC 61508. Additionally, his work addresses the integration of reliability and safety engineering methods into industrial product development, the lifecycle-oriented assessment of electronic assemblies, and the safety qualification of reused electronics within sustainable circular-economy frameworks.
Professional career
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Abderrahim Krini has extensive industrial and academic experience in the field of functional safety and reliability of electronic systems. His professional career includes various development and quality roles within the international automotive supply industry, most recently in a senior leadership position as Director of Development and Quality for electromechanical steering systems at Robert Bosch GmbH in Milan. In this role, he was responsible for the development, quality assurance, and release of safety-critical E/E systems for leading automotive manufacturers.
In parallel with his industrial career, he has been active in teaching at universities since 2014, supervising numerous bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral theses in close collaboration with industrial partners. Since 2025, he has been Professor of Applied Electronics and Functional Safety at the Technische Hochschule Ostwestfalen-Lippe, where he integrates scientific methodologies with practical, industry-oriented application
Teaching
Prof. Dr. Abderrahim Krini’s teaching combines fundamental engineering principles with practice-oriented application in safety-critical electronic systems. His courses integrate theory, simulation, laboratory work, and industry-based case studies. Within a broad range of Bachelor’s and Master’s courses in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, he provides students with the analytical, design-related, and validation skills required for the development and assessment of electronic systems in compliance with relevant standards.
His teaching portfolio includes courses such as Electronics 1 (fundamentals of electronic components), Electronics 2 (advanced circuits including amplifiers, filters, and datasheet interpretation), Reliability Engineering (failure mechanisms, metrics such as FIT/MTBF, statistical models), Functional Safety (risk assessment, ASIL classification, safety lifecycle, safety cases), and Validation and Certification (test and verification methods, formal verification, standards-based documentation). Across all courses, students work with practical exercises, simulation projects, and industry-relevant tools to prepare them for real engineering and development tasks.
