It's OWL-ImWR - Innovative modular drive inverter system for the electrification of ancillary units in vehicle applications
In commercial vehicles ancillaries such as air compressors, fans and hydraulic pumps have been driven by the internal combustion engine up to now. The power that is available to drive these units is coupled to the speed of the engine and can not be controlled as needed. Therefore, the units must be designed so that they work even at low engine speeds. This leads to an increase in the weight and size of the units and thus to an inefficient operation. There is therefore great potential in the electrification of the drives for the ancillaries. The aim of the joint project is the development of a modular, electric drive system for the ancillary units of commercial vehicles. Thus, the power for the operation of different units should be individually adapted to the requirements. As a result, the efficiency of the vehicle unit drives units will be increased, the fuel consumption reduced and the weight and size of the units are reduced.
