Choice of propulsion concepts and energy carriers for sustainable mobility by the example of public transportation
It is widely expected that mobility in future needs to be more independent from fossil fuels due to climate change and the scarcity of resources. However, a reasonable change of mobility would require a concept that incorporates the origin of the propulsion energy (e. g. fuels) as well as a suitable concept for the transition period of technological changes. Research activities should be open to any technological option.
In this contribution the appropriate choice of the propulsion concepts and energy carriers for busses in public transportation is discussed and a comprehensive research project incorporating a model region and a virtual institute is outlined.
