IES - Intelligent Energy Systems
The research focus "Intelligent Energy Systems - IES" of the OWL University of Applied Sciences, supported by the NRW federal state, is dedicated to sustainable energy supply by adopting a holistic approach, starting from the regenerative energies via efficient storage, conversion and use up to energy management. The basis of the research activities is the scientific value-creation chain, which includes all essential components, from idea generation to the final exploitation of the energy technology issues. An interdisciplinary research structure involving the departments of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Detmold School of Architecture and Interior Design, Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics, Life Science Technologies as well as Production and Economics of the Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences has been founded for this social challenge. The involvement of civil engineers, chemical engineers, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, physicists, process engineers and economists ensures that ambitious research topics for intelligent energy systems can be successfully processed bundled with expertise in essential areas of electrical energy technology, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, building physics, business administration, process and environmental engineering under consideration of user needs. With the participation of numerous partners from science and practice, the research in the IES research focus is currently focusing on a resource-conserving and environmentally compatible energy supply of the future for rural regions.
