A systematic location analysis for power-to-methanol plants
The transformation of the energy system requires the development of an like wind energy. The power-to-methanol process represents an innovative and promising long-term storage system for the conversion of renewable power into chemical energy. The renewable methanol can be used as a storage medium for the stabilization of the electrical grid or as an energetic fuel. The aim of the following study was to perform a location analysis for PtM-plants in Germany. A location-algorithm was size and regions with a high density of wind energy. In the next step the gas transmission network is associate with the distance of the biogas-and wind energy plants. After analyzing the possible location for PtM-plants in Germany, the economics of a plant in Brandenburg with the capacity of 3.536 t Methanol per year was evaluated.
